You will see a computer-generated design of the memorial and approve exactly how it looks before any work begins. Nothing is cut until you say so.

Single and companion uprights
The standing memorial most cemeteries in Utah County permit. Made as a single die or as a companion stone for two, with matching vases, fluted columns, scrolls and carved detail where you want them.
Two, three and four foot slants, three and four foot dies
A lower profile where the cemetery restricts height, or where a family prefers something quieter. The face carries the same lettering and artwork as an upright.
8x16, 10x20, 12x24 and 16x28
Set flush with the ground for the lawn sections that require it. Also the usual choice for a second date added alongside a marker that is already in place.
Granite benches
A memorial you can sit on when you visit. Lettered and carved on the seat, the ends or the base, in the same granites as the uprights.

No two of these are the same stone. Every one was drawn for one family and approved by them before it was cut.
The first monument shop in Springville was ours.
Thomas Child learned the masonry trade working on the Salt Lake Temple, then opened a monument business here in 1886. The trade has been handed on ever since, from the Child family to the Andersons and now to Dennis and Deana Hill.
Thomas Child, son of William Child, opens the first monument business in Springville. He had learned the masonry trade working on the Salt Lake Temple. His brother's line had run a monument business in England since 1899.
Thomas works the trade with his son Alma Henry Child at about 290 North Main. After Thomas passes, Alma takes over and the name becomes A. H. Child and Sons.
Alma's son Arvile moves the shop to 134 W 200 N and renames it Memorial Art Monuments. He buys an old coal truck and turns it into a shop on wheels, parking at cemeteries, reading the local papers, and cutting and sandblasting the stones inside the truck.
Arvile parks the truck for good and takes on the Springville business his brother Ivan had been running. It has stood at 190 North Main ever since.
Arvile is killed in an accident. His wife Odessa keeps the business running with the family. In 1965 she appears in LIFE magazine as a woman in business, selling large quotas of granite.
Odessa sells to her eldest daughter Beverly and her husband Richard Johnson, who run it until 1989. Beverly's sister Linda and her husband Mike Anderson take it on until they retire in 2008.
Linda offered the business to Dennis and Deana Hill. Mike spent months teaching Dennis the trade that had been passed down through the family. Dennis and Deana own and run it now.

Approve the design
We produce a computer-generated design so you can see the memorial before it exists. Lettering, artwork, every detail. Nothing goes into production until you have approved it.
We make it
Cut, sandblasted, lettered and carved from natural granite, guaranteed against defects in material and workmanship.
We set it
We deliver and set the memorial at the cemetery, coordinated to that cemetery's own guidelines. Distance is not a barrier anywhere in Utah County.
The things people do not know to ask for.
Most of this is work on stones we did not make. That is fine. Bring us the cemetery and the name.
Adding a date
We inscribe death dates on stones already standing in the cemetery. We go out once a month for on-site inscriptions, weather permitting. If the stone can come to the shop, we offer a five day service, weather and cemetery permitting.
Headstone cleaning
We clean headstones. Call or email us and tell us which cemetery and whose stone it is.
Restoration
We can restore most types of granite headstone from erosion and weathering. With a precise hand we are able to recreate the beauty that was once there.
Re-levelling
Stones sink and lean over the years. Call or email us and we will re-level your loved one's headstone free of charge.
Veterans and memorial walls
We set military markers in cement and place them at the cemetery for as little as $275. We also design, build and maintain several veteran and memorial walls in the valley.
Signs and landscape rocks

What does a headstone cost?
It depends on the size the cemetery allows, which granite you choose, and how much carving and etching the stone carries. A flat marker and a carved companion upright are very different pieces of work.
Tell us roughly what you have in mind and we will give you a real figure. There is no obligation and no charge for asking.
What should I bring with me?
The cemetery name and the plot, if you have them, because the section decides what size and type of memorial is permitted. If you do not have them, come anyway. We will find out for you.
Bring photographs, a favourite line, a symbol, anything that matters. Or bring nothing and just talk it through with us.
Will I see it before it is made?
Yes. We produce a computer-generated design of the memorial and you review and approve the artwork, the lettering and every detail before any work begins. Nothing goes into production until you are happy with it.
Can you add a date to a stone that is already there?

What is guaranteed?
Every monument we sell is guaranteed against defects in material and workmanship. We certify that the memorial is fabricated from the finest quality natural granite, free from defects that would render it unsuitable for memorial purposes. If any part covered by the warranty proves defective in material or workmanship, we replace it free of all expense to you or your family.
We cannot be responsible for damage done by moving equipment, vandalism, unusual environmental or atmospheric conditions, or natural disasters.
Can the lettering be in another language?
Yes. We cut inscriptions in the language the family speaks, and we work in religious and cultural symbols alongside them.

The shop is on North Main, where it has been since 1949. Come and stand in front of the stones. It is easier to choose that way than from a screen, and there is no appointment needed during shop hours.
